Richland Newhope’s roots date back to the early 1950’s when classes for children with intellectual disabilities began in the former Richland County Children’s Home. In 1963, Richland Newhope Industries, Inc., a sheltered workshop program for adults with developmental disabilities, opened. In 1967, a state law was passed creating boards of developmental disabilities in each Ohio county. The Richland County board took over management of Richland Newhope.
